When it comes to starting a decorating project, there are some questions that you need to be answered so that you can make the best of the project.
Before you rush out and buy all of the materials that you need such as paints, new carpets, and curtains, ask yourself these simple questions to make sure you are making all of the right home decor decisions. That way, you can have a home you will enjoy for many years to come.
In this article, we’ll look at the questions you need to be asking before starting any home decorating project.
1. What will the room be used for?
This is an important question because you will need to base your decorating on the use of the room. Make practical decisions based on how the room is going to be used.
An example might be that if you were looking to put curtains in front of a double set of patio doors leading to your back garden, you would want to choose a darker colour to avoid any dirt from outside getting onto a lighter coloured set of curtains.
2. What atmosphere do you want to create?
You should think about how you want the room to feel. Do you want your room to be cosy, relaxed, or alive? If you want to create the perfect look that matches that atmosphere, think about a time when you have felt that mood elsewhere and try and remember what the room looked like.
You may want to use paints, lighting, curtains, and carpets to help set the tone of mood that you are looking for.
3. What colours match the mood you are aiming to achieve?
You will need to do some research into the colours that will suit the atmosphere that you want to create. If you are after a cosy feel to your room, then you may want to go for some warm brown colours. Use soft fabrics wherever possible such as wool or velvet. Throws and cushions will help to create the perfect cosy room.
If you are looking for a room to relax in, go for pale light colours such as whites or soft blue. Think about minimalist style ornaments and avoid any clutter where possible.
4. Is the wallpaper your main feature or are the curtains and blinds?
Make a feature of something in your home, be it the curtains and blinds or the walls. Be brave with your style choices. Don’t be afraid to mix up your patterns if you have to.
5. Decide on your budget
Before you spend a single penny on your home decor project, you should decide on your overall budget. Think about how much you will be using the room that you are decorating.
It stands to reason that you shouldn’t be spending out more on a room that you won’t be using as much, such as a spare bedroom, than you would on the main bedroom or even on your living room.
